A framework for answering product strategy questions
Follow this 7-step process to get you started.
Product Strategy:
- Step 1: Clarify the problem - assumptions
- Step 2: Define the product, company, or industry goals
- Step 3: Define the landscape - direct and indirect competition/ Public opinion / Tech / Regulation
- Step 4: Define guiding principles - priority(company values), concern, threat
- Step 5: Establish an option set - pick direct or indirect competition (basically narrow down from landscape)
- Step 6: Make your decision and argue for it
- Step 7: Evaluate and recap - cover tradeoffs, potential risks, etc.
(spend up to 50% of your time on steps 1 through 4)
GTM Questions:
- Step 1: Define the landscape - product, portfolio and why the product is being launched
- Step 2: Identify a GTM strategy - inbound, sales driven, demand generation
Pricing Questions:
- Step 1: Define the landscape - Competition, Public opinion, Internationalization, current consumer price sensitivity
- Step 2: Identify a Pricing Strategy - Value based pricing, Cost-plus pricing, Dynamic pricing
